In this Telford project, the client wanted to modernize a set of folding doors that originally had a natural wood finish. The goal was to update these doors with a sleek, contemporary look while ensuring a durable finish that would withstand daily use. The “before” image shows the original warm wood tone, which, while classic, didn’t align with the modern aesthetic the client envisioned for the space.
We began by thoroughly sanding the doors using our Festool sanding equipment with dust extraction. This step was essential to remove the existing varnish and create a smooth surface for the primer. By using the dust extraction feature, we kept the workspace clean and ensured a dust-free finish, which is crucial for achieving a professional look on smooth, flat surfaces like doors.
Once the doors were prepped, we applied a high-quality primer, followed by two coats of a durable, scuff-resistant white paint using our Graco airless sprayer. This technique allowed us to achieve a smooth, even coat across the entire surface without brush strokes, ensuring a pristine, flawless finish. The choice of white brought a fresh, clean aesthetic, which not only brightened the room but also complemented the flooring and surrounding decor.
The new matte white finish modernized the doors significantly, giving the room a more open and airy feel. The black door handles provided a stylish contrast, adding a touch of sophistication and enhancing the overall contemporary look.
The client was thrilled with the transformation, appreciating how the updated doors aligned with the modern style of their home. This project demonstrates how even small changes, when executed with high-quality tools and attention to detail, can have a substantial impact on a room’s overall aesthetic, adding value and style to the living space.
